Hi! Iβm Lizzie. I was raised in New Jersey and went to college in Vermont. Now I find myself settled on the coast of Northern California with my growing family in the tiny village of Mendocino. I love making objects for everyday life and thought, and find both tactile and abstract inspiration among the life that blankets our coast and forest and the workings of our small town. My work has always concerned pattern and our intersection and interaction with the natural world. In the past, this was expressed sculpturally. I wanted to physically understand cellular structure and think about its relationship to the whole by building sculptures and small scale studies.
More recently, I have adapted my thoughts about pattern and our interactions with it to surface design on my wares. Many of the patterns are geometric, but my human touch makes them warm and relatable. You can see where my concentration faltered just for a second and I lost a general direction in the pattern, however order remains unmistakably present.
I feel a connection between this method of decoration and that of natural environmental effect on different organismsβif we look closely enough, we can see the intricacies of our individual environments and how they diversify us. However, once we pull back general patterns take shape creating harmony, unity, and an important and indispensable sense of togetherness.
